Another old man rising to the defense of all women! Wait. That’s not quite
right.
Another old man rising to attack all women! Yes. That’s what it is.
Again, again, again? Why does this keep happening? Aren’t there more important
issues out there, such as his district’s economy and job market?
Fine, if you insist on talking about rape, then let’s talk about rape. Let’s
talk about how to prevent rape here in this country and internationally. Let’s
talk about how to protect men, women, transgendered, vulnerable, children,
refugees, and victims of power. Let’s talk about finding and persecuting those
who commit rape during times of war. Let’s talk about rape in prisons. Let’s
talk about sex trafficking and the modern slave trade. Let’s talk about the
fact that it was legal for a man to rape a woman if they were married or in a
committed relationship – sorry, slut, that’s the law: you chose to marry him,
you choose to stay married to him, and so you get no protection when he rapes
or beats you.
But of all those issues and the many more that exist, I never would have
thought that rape could be used as an excuse.
Men – listen up – just because you men would lie and say you were raped just to
obtain something does not mean that we women would lie and say that we were
raped just to obtain something. Do you understand what I’m saying? No? Well
damn. I guess I should use the “rape excuse” so that I can haul you into
counseling and we can work out why you hate your grandmothers, mothers,
sisters, aunties, nieces, daughters, and granddaughters so much.
Now let’s hear from a woman, State Senator Diane Bilyeu (D):
“Fellow senators, as a woman and as a person of faith, this bill makes me want
to cry," said state Sen. Diane Bilyeu, a Democrat. "I want an end to
abortion as well as all of you do, and I am totally opposed to abortion except
in the case of rape, incest or the life of the mother. But I find this bill to
be intrusive into my faith, and it is punitive as a woman.”
Wow – did she just use cite her faith as the reason she couldn’t support this
bill, what it stands for, and what would happen if it passed?! Take note –
faith goes both ways. But I suppose if Conservatives that selectively apply
freedom of religion, then they can selectively apply freedom of practice of
faith to effect political decisions.
