Please note that Ms. Leslie Aun, Komen’s national spokeswoman, hopes that,
“folks will come back and support the local communities and support the great
work of Komen.”
These same local communities from whom you want support for your “great work”
may ultimately decide that your great work is overshadowed by one aspect of
your organization. That sounds a bit like what you did to Planned Parenthood –
deciding that all of their great work for women’s and family health means
nothing as long as a few clinics, out of the hundreds and hundreds throughout
the country, may perform abortions.
If these local communities decide that you are no longer worthy of their
support because of this one aspect, then you may potentially be at the top of a
big hill, gaining momentum in a snowball effect. Do you want a reversal? I bet
you do. Unfortunately trust does not quite work like grant funding – it’s much
more harder to regain trust and confidence than it is to simply reinstate
eligibility.
