Conservatives declaring war on religion. Conservatives declaring war on education. Conservatives declaring war on culture. Conservatives declaring war on themselves.
Thus it does not surprise me when Conservative women declare war on themselves.
Conservative women legislators are eagerly jumping into the fray as leaders in the fight
against themselves. Republican state legislator State Representative Terri
Proud (R-Tucson) received an email from a constituent expressing the
constituent’s opposition to a law pending in the Legislature that would “ban
abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy.” Ms. Proud responded vigorously,
“Personally I'd like to make a law that mandates a woman watch an abortion
being performed prior to having a ‘surgical procedure.’”
And now for some outrage laced with a heavy dose of sarcasm.
Ms. Proud, I think that your idea is an excellent idea. And I think that you
are spot on. Yes, we should absolutely require women to watch an abortion
procedure before they are allowed to have the procedure. I love this idea so
much that I’d like to extend it to every medical procedure! Patients who are going
to have their wisdom teeth removed should have to watch a wisdom teeth removal
video. Patients who must undergo emergency surgery should likewise be required
to watch a video of their life-saving surgery before they are allowed into the
surgery room. Women who wish to have a C-section or endure natural child birth
should certainly be required to watch film of it. Children who need vaccines
should be required to watch film of other children getting vaccines. This can
be nothing but good. I am a fan. I also appreciate, Ms. Proud, your willingness
to let women go through with an abortion after they have watched the film of an
abortion being performed. How progressive of you! And to assign oversight to
the government – you must really love big government! Don’t worry – I won’t
tell your fellow Conservatives that you’ve sold out for women’s issues. *Wink
wink.*
This article goes on to list some of the other bills being proposed and
considered in the Arizona Legislature, which is mind-bogglingly mired in their
own word vomit and resulting fecal matter.
“In addition to the abortion ban, the Arizona Legislature is considering bills
to defund Planned Parenthood, allow doctors to withhold information from
patients to prevent abortions, and to allow employers to opt out of
contraception coverage for religious reasons. The contraception bill also would
allow employers to demand women provide reasons for why they are using birth
control and allow for firing if it is for nonmedical reasons.”
Though I’d love rant until I’m hoarse (and then continue to rant in strange
strangled noises and exasperated gestures), I shall refrain. For now, at least.
